The Westfield Shamrocks will take on the Illiana Christian Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Westfield made easy work of Harrison and carried off a 10-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Shamrocks.
Mackenzie Delph looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Westfield let Makayla Watson and Avery Banas run wild. Watson went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Banas went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Banas has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Easterhaus, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Westfield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Illiana Christian was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Beecher. The Vikings have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Illiana Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lydia VanderWoude, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Illiana Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Westfield, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Illiana Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .391. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
