Basketball Recap: Nick Avent's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greene Central over Harrells Christian Academy

On Monday, the Greene Central Rams lost to the Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders on the road by a 73-58 margin. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Crusaders are ranked 26th).

Greene Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nick Avent, who made all 6 shots he took racking up 15 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Avent, who went 5 of 7 en route to 14 points.

Antonio Mckoy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Harrells Christian Academy, going 16 for 19 on his way to 38 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Mckoy is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last 12 games he's played. Dashaun Mckoy was another key player, putting up nine points and eight boards.

Greene Central has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Harrells Christian Academy, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greene Central will challenge North Pitt at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Greene Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for Harrells Christian Academy, they will face off against Kerr-Vance Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
