Rio Vista and Hico are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Rio Vista Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Hico Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Rio Vista's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Frost 17-0. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Hico made easy work of Frost on Tuesday and carried off a 15-0 win.
Mikaelynn Miles made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Victoria Zuniga was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Abella Garza, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Hico always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
The victory made it two in a row for Rio Vista and bumps their season record up to 6-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15 runs. As for Hico, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-6.
Hico's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rio Vista hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .435. It's a different story for Hico, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Rio Vista's hitters?
Rio Vista suffered a grim 22-8 defeat to Hico when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Rio Vista avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
