4A Oregon West recap Sept. 26, 2012
Cascade extended the longest winning streak in 4A Oregon West this week by beating Sisters, 26-8. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Cascade was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in the league. Earlier in the week, Steve Turner's team defeated the Outlaws 26-8.
Central's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ben Finnegan threw for 182 and three touchdowns and Branden Cutsforth had 54 yards receiving. On the ground Wesley Riddell chipped in 93 yards. Grant Lindley helped Central's passing attack out by catching four balls for 45 yards.
Cutsforth made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Panthers lost to Scappoose. The 6-foot-0 senior recorded one fumble.
Central's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Finnegan has thrown for 567 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Kelton Chapman has nine catches for 161 yards. Riddell leads the league in rushing with 198 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Oregon West this week will be when Newport takes on the Cougars. At the moment, the Cubs are in third, while Cascade is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Newport takes on the Cougars. Kurt Hargett's team has allowed 73 points this season, while Cascade has given up 40. The Cubs allowed 35 points last week as they fell to Siuslaw.
The Cougars made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,707 from 5,998. The improvement came about via a 26-8 victory over Sisters last week.
