Baseball Game Preview: Pius X Thunderbolts vs. Gretna East Griffins

The Pius X Thunderbolts will venture away from home to face off against the Gretna East Griffins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Saturday, Pius X didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln Southeast and fell 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Thunderbolts have suffered against the Knights since April 24, 2015.

Pius X saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Mlnarik, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Gretna East narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Elkhorn 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Griffins.

Chase Neneman tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Easton Leahy, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Nolan Green was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Gretna East hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games dating back to last season.
