Softball Recap: North Stanly Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

With a playoff win on the line, North Stanly rose to the challenge on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Forbush Falcons 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since May 21, 2024.

Sophia Crist spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, North Stanly's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ella Varner, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave Varner a new career-high.

North Stanly is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Forbush, their loss dropped their record down to 20-8.

Looking ahead, North Stanly will be playing at home against West Stokes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Comets surely won't give up without a fight. Forbush does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
