Baseball Recap: Slater Wins Going Away Against Fayette

Slater hadn't done well against Fayette recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Falcons 6-4. That looming 6-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.

Isaac Larson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Maddox Tyler was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Chase Hemeyer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

The victory (which was Slater's third in a row) raised their record to 3-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Fayette, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Slater will venture away from home to face off against Pilot Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Fayette, they will be playing at home against Westran at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
