The Hamilton Heights Huskies will challenge the Cascade Cadets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Hamilton Heights earned a 6-2 victory over Guerin Catholic. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.
Lily Cash was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Kamryn Rhoton was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Ellie Engle also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Hamilton Heights lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cascade, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Greenwood 11-1 on Thursday. The Cadets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Like Hamilton Heights, Cascade also got a great game from a two-way player: Caitlin Gryszowka. On the mound, Gryszowka tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Grace Gray struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). At bat, Gryszowka went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one triple, while Gray went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Those three hits gave Gryszowka a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lacie Godby and Ava Allen did most of the damage at the plate: Godby went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Allen went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tara Gruca, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Cascade pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Hamilton Heights, their record now sits at 10-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hamilton Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Cascade struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hamilton Heights suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Cascade in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
