Softball Recap: North Gaston Wins Going Away Against Huss

North Gaston never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Huss Huskies as they made off with a 17-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four contests by 13 runs or more so far this season.

Alysa Couick made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Couick was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Maddie Carpenter was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Layla Love, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

North Gaston lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for North Gaston and bumps their season record up to 5-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Huss, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Gaston will square off against Ashbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Greenwave have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.38 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Huss, they will take on Stuart W. Cramer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
