Softball Game Preview: Vernonia Loggers vs. Santiam Wolverines

The Vernonia Loggers will head out on the road to face off against the Santiam Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Vernonia has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 18.

Gaston hit Vernonia with a four-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Loggers lost 13-3 to the Greyhounds. That's two games in a row now that the Loggers have lost by exactly ten runs.

Chloe Schumburg made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Busch, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Culver hit Santiam with a ten-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolverines came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 15-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Wolverines were not able to get on the board.

Santiam's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Vernonia, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-15.

Everything went Vernonia's way against Santiam in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, as Vernonia made off with an 11-0 victory. Will the Loggers repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
