Basketball Game Preview: Viewmont Vikings vs. Brighton Bengals

Two dominant forwards in Mara Mickelson and Sophie Nielsen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Viewmont Vikings will face off against the Brighton Bengals at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Viewmont is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 50-41 victory over Bonneville.

Mickelson was her usual excellent self, going 6-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and eight rebounds. Those 26 points gave her a new career-high. Callie Peterson was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven boards.

Viewmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Brighton entered their tilt with East on Friday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victor by a 53-27 margin over the Leopards. The Bengals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Brighton pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points over those games. As for Viewmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

Viewmont strolled past Brighton when the teams last played back in February of 2022 by a score of 65-46. Will Viewmont repeat their success, or does Brighton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
