Recap: Jefferson Davis County Jaguars vs. Canton Tigers
After a string of six wins, the Jefferson Davis County Jaguars's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Canton by a score of 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Canton found their leader in underclassman Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Morton is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylei Rogers, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Jefferson Davis County's loss dropped their record down to 17-3. As for Canton, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jefferson Davis County's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Sumrall at 1:00 p.m. on January 15th. Sumrall will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Jefferson Davis County is ranked 44th). As for Canton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cleveland Central at 6:00 p.m. Cleveland Central is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
