Basketball Game Preview: Sickles Gryphons vs. Steinbrenner Warriors

Sickles is 2-8 against Steinbrenner since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Sickles Gryphons will challenge the Steinbrenner Warriors. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sickles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Largo 72-22. Given the Gryphons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Packers are ranked 373rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Steinbrenner). They blew past East Lake, posting a 92-15 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Steinbrenner has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.9 points per game. As for Sickles, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-8.

Sickles came up short against Steinbrenner when the teams last played last Tuesday, falling 56-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Steinbrenner's Sarah Coble, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards.
