Basketball Recap: Grand Oaks Now 23-4 over Last 27 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Grand Oaks rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They strolled past the Nimitz Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 61-43. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Cougars are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nimitz's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Bergeron, who posted 16 points. Bergeron's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Daniel Clark was another key player, putting up ten points.

Grand Oaks has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 23 of their last 27 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Nimitz and nudges their season record down to 19-17.

Looking ahead, Grand Oaks will square off against Cypress Woods at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cypress Woods comes in on five and Grand Oaks on four. Nimitz does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
