Volleyball Recap: Mosinee Indians vs. Merrill Bluejays

With a playoff game on the line, Mosinee rose to the challenge on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Merrill Bluejays. The victory was familiar territory for the Indians who have now won three matchups in a row.

The match finished with set scores of 28-26, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18.

Mosinee got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Taelyn Jirschele out in front who had eight digs and five aces. That's the most aces Jirschele has posted in her last seven contests. Miranda Shnowske was another key player, getting 16 digs.

Mosinee was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merrill only served six.

Despite the loss, Merrill had strong showings from Ava Detert, who had 26 digs and two kills, and Gabby Wheeler, who had nine digs. Detert is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in the last seven games she's played dating back to last season.

Mosinee is on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 27-9 record this season. As for Merrill, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-20 record this season.
