Basketball Recap: Davonte Griffin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Middlesex over Bruton

Middlesex won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They lost 78-58 to the Bruton Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Chargers have suffered since December 12, 2023.

Middlesex's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Davonte Griffin, who posted 20 points. Those 20 points gave Griffin a new career-high. JaQuan Griffin was another key player, going 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points.

Cy Gresham went supernova for Bruton, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Freeman, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Middlesex's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Bruton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Middlesex will head out to square off against King William at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bruton, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 80-78 defeat against Smithfield on the 11th.
