Pair of quarterbacks throw for over 600 yards; Florida quarterback sets two state records.

Prior to the year 2000, there were only six reported games in which a high school quarterback threw for more than 600 yards.

In the last two weeks in the 2014 season there have been four, including two last week. That total figures to rise as pass-happy offenses continue to assault the record books on a weekly basis.

The first huge increase in 600-yard passing games occurred in 2012 when 12 quarterbacks threw for over 600 yards. Last year, 11 more accomplished the feat.

Last week, Noah Davis of St. Bernard's (Eureka, Calif.), threw for 614 yards while Parker Carmichael of Triway (Wooster, Ohio) threw for exactly 600.

Davis is the fifth quarterback in California history to throw for over 600 yards, joining David Koral of Palisades (Pacific Palisades) with 764, Jake Browning of Folsom with 689, Conner Manning of El Toro (Lake Forest) with 613 and Robert Fuller of San Bernardino with 604.

Carmichael, meanwhile, had a huge night as he threw for six touchdowns and ran for another five. Ohio does not have a category for most touchdowns accounted for in one game and neither does the National Federation of High Schools Record Book. The Ohio state record for most touchdowns in a game is 12, set in 1923 by Erastus Simmons of Medina. The national record for most touchdowns accounted for is 25 by Arthur Smith of Cozad (Neb.). He is reported to have run for 10 touchdowns and thrown for 15 in a 201-7 win over Overton in 1921.

Tucker Israel of Lake Nona (Orlando, Fla.) did set a couple of state records in Florida, as he became the state's all-time leader in completions and yardage.

Also making the list this week is Kaylor Sullivan of Fort Bragg (Calif.) with 446 yards passing and four touchdowns. The touchdown total is half of what Sullivan completed in the first half of a 55-0 win over Encina Prep (Sacramento) two weeks ago. The eight touchdown passes Sullivan threw in the first half of that outing would tie a national record, according to the NFHS Record Book, although it should be noted that Arthur Smith's total for a half (he threw 15 touchdowns in the entire game) is not reported.
