Basketball Game Preview: Independence Patriots vs. La Joya Community Fighting Lobos

The Independence Patriots will square off against the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Independence's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.

Independence easily dispatched Lake Havasu last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Independence fell just short of Washington by a score of 69-66 last Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Patriots have suffered since January 19, 2024.

Meanwhile, La Joya Community waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They breezed by the Stampede to the tune of 76-48. The Fighting Lobos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 28 points or more this season.

La Joya Community has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Independence, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Independence beat La Joya Community 65-56 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Will Independence repeat their success, or does La Joya Community have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
