Preview: Strom Thurmond Rebels vs. Fox Creek Predators
The Strom Thurmond Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Fox Creek Predators at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Strom Thurmond has four straight wins, Fox Creek has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Strom Thurmond stacked a sixth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Silver Bluff 34-7 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Strom Thurmond just coasted through the last quarter.
Strom Thurmond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quan Edmond led the charge by throwing for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Braylon Staley also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Strom Thurmond's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Juju Stevens and Michael Blocker who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Fox Creek might've scored the first points on Friday, but it was Saluda who claimed the real prize. Fox Creek took a hard 28-10 fall against Saluda.
Strom Thurmond's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.8 points per game. As for Fox Creek, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Strom Thurmond was able to grind out a solid victory over Fox Creek in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, winning 26-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Strom Thurmond since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
