Recap: Corner Canyon Chargers vs. Bingham Miners

On Thursday, the Corner Canyon Chargers faced the Bingham Miners in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Corner Canyon was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Bingham. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Elina Mortensen and Maia Rhay certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Mortensen scored 19 points along with nine rebounds, while Rhay scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. Mortensen hasn't dropped below 15 points for 14 straight games. Another player making a difference was Brooke Luper, who scored six points.

Leading Bingham to victory were Brianna Badonie and Addy Horsley. Badonie scored 20 points, while Horsley scored 24 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Makailyn Horsley, who scored seven points.

Corner Canyon has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Bingham, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corner Canyon will face off against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Riverton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. As for Bingham, they will head out on the road to take on Copper Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Copper Hills is ranked second, while Bingham is ranked ninth).
