Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks vs. Hollywood Hills Spartans

For the first time this season, Archbishop McCarthy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will take on the Hollywood Hills Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Archbishop McCarthy will be strutting in after a victory while Hollywood Hills will be coming in after a loss.

Archbishop McCarthy headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but Piper let them put that streak behind them. The Mavericks were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Bengals on Friday. Considering the Mavericks have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Archbishop McCarthy got a great performance from Xavier Domenech as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Domenech has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Danny Machado and Alejandro Cabral did most of the damage at the plate: Machado went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Cabral scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Cabral a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Delgado, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Hollywood Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Northeast, falling 19-1.

Archbishop McCarthy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Hollywood Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Archbishop McCarthy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hollywood Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Archbishop McCarthy's way against Hollywood Hills in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, as Archbishop McCarthy made off with a 10-0 victory.
