Basketball Game Preview: St. Francis Spartans vs. Trinity Blazers

St. Francis hasn't had much luck against Trinity recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The St. Francis Spartans will challenge the Trinity Blazers at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

St. Francis is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pritzker 63-8. The Spartans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

T?a Rubino had an outrageously good game as she went 8-for-15 en route to 20 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Riley Austin, who earned four points along with seven assists, six boards, and six steals.

St. Francis was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Trinity took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging an 82-22 win over Schurz. Given the Blazers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 606th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Trinity has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points over those games. As for St. Francis, their record is now 9-22.

St. Francis came up short against Trinity in their previous meeting on February 3rd, falling 55-47. Can St. Francis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
