Basketball Recap: Orcas Island Comes Up Short

Orcas Island entered their contest against Mount Vernon Christian on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Orcas Island Vikings were outmatched by the Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes and fell 68-39. The Vikings lost against the Hurricanes in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 75-7 score last time.

Orcas Island's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-7. As for Mount Vernon Christian, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.

Orcas Island will face off against Friday Harbor at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mount Vernon Christian, they will venture away from home to challenge La Conner at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Vernon Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully La Conner likes a good challenge.
