Basketball Recap: George West Comes Up Short

George West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 54-39 to the London Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1210th, while the Pirates are ranked 326th).

When it comes to explaining why George West lost, don't look at Tristen Blevins. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 12 en route to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That was a full 51.3% of George West's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

London was led to victory by Ac Carpentier and Maddox Jennings. Carpentier went 8 of 17 on his way to 21 points, while Jennings had ten points along with five boards and five steals. Carpentier has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Aiden Salinas was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

George West's loss dropped their record down to 14-14. As for London, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season.

George West will welcome West Oso at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. West Oso is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season. As for London, they will venture away from home to face off against Taft at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Taft is on a four-game streak of home wins, London a 13-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
