Baseball Game Preview: John Carroll Patriots vs. Loyola Blakefield Dons

For the second straight game, John Carroll will face off against Loyola Blakefield. The Patriots will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Dons at 4:15 p.m. John Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when John Carroll and Loyola Blakefield meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Patriots fell 13-10 to the Dons.

John Carroll got a good showing from Pierce Quinn, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Casey Carpenter led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Joey Coudon, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Loyola Blakefield's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-12. As for John Carroll, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5-2 record this season.
