Softball Recap: Von Steuben Takes a Loss

Von Steuben had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-6 to make it five. They came up short against the Northside Mustangs, falling 14-4. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Von Steuben saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Claire Hull also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Northside, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-8. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

On Northside's side, Yailyn Medina was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Medina a new career-high. Payton Phoxay was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Von Steuben will host Prosser at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.4 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northside, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Whitney Young at 4:30 p.m. The Dolphins will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
