Recap: Cardinal Mooney Cougars vs. Sarasota Sailors
After a string of eight wins, the Cardinal Mooney Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were outmatched by Sarasota on the road and fell 66-39. While losing is never fun, Cardinal Mooney can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Sarasota is ranked 25th).
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kevin O'donoghue, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of George Leibold, who scored eight points.
Cardinal Mooney's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-8. As for Sarasota, they pushed their record up to 22-2 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Cardinal Mooney's road trip will continue as they head out to face Out-of-Door Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Cardinal Mooney focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Sarasota, they will face off against Lehigh at TBD on Thursday. One thing working in Sarasota's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.
