Union falls despite strong effort from Glory Ellis

Recap: Union Rockets vs. Monroe Central Golden Bears

The Union Rockets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 42-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monroe Central. Union has struggled against Monroe Central recently, as their match on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Union still got an impressive performance from Glory Ellis, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ellis continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlynn Holderman, who scored ten points.

Monroe Central was led to victory by Addy Puckett and Sydney Patterson. Puckett scored ten points along with six assists and three steals, while Patterson scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Patterson has scored at least 25% of Monroe Central's points. Maleigh Ervin was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.

Union has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Monroe Central, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Union has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Hagerstown at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Monroe Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Muncie Central at 6:30 p.m. on January 11th. Muncie Central comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
