Football Recap: Whitwell Comes Up Short

Whitwell fought the good fight in their overtime game against Sale Creek on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 18-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 36 points in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

When it comes to explaining why Whitwell lost, don't look at Brody Harvey. Despite the final result, he rushed for 95 yards and a pair of TDs. Harvey also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Tigers are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-5 otherwise.

Jd Skiles was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 59 yards and two scores.

This is the second loss in a row for Whitwell and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Sale Creek, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Whitwell and Jo Byrns will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Sale Creek, they will host South Pittsburg at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least 31 points in their last six contests.
