Basketball Recap: Placer Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kannon Rector and Emmett Rose

Placer was the 67-56 winner over Twelve Bridges when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Placer Hillmen fell just short of the Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos by a score of 55-52 on Monday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Hillmen came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Raging Rhinos are ranked 207th).

Placer's loss came despite strong showings from Emmett Rose and Kannon Rector. Rose posted 25 points, while Rector put up 17 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Rector has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Alex Russell was another key player, putting up two points and seven rebounds.

Placer's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 23-3. As for Twelve Bridges, they pushed their record up to 20-6 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Placer will venture away from home to square off against Yuba City at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Yuba City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season. As for Twelve Bridges, they will square off against Roseville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roseville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Twelve Bridges likes a good challenge.
