Softball Recap: St. Dominic Finds Home Field Redemption Against Wells

There's no place like home for St. Dominic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wells Warriors 13-11.

Madeline Andrews was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off 11 hits. Andrews was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, St. Dominic let Emily Andrews and Chloe Croteau run wild. Andrews went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Croteau went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Andrews is also crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Leah Shannon, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

St. Dominic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

St. Dominic now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Wells, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Dominic will square off against Old Orchard Beach at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wells, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gray-New Gloucester at 4:00 p.m. on May 9.
