Baseball Recap: Lakeland Christian Comes Up Short

Lakeland Christian fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against McKeel Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-5. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fin Donay was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Maclain Irby made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mookie Rodriguez, who went 4-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

Lakeland Christian's loss dropped their record down to 14-6. As for McKeel Academy, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-6.

Coming up, Lakeland Christian will square off against Victory Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Storm have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for McKeel Academy, they will be taking part in a tournament against Santa Fe Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
