Basketball Recap: Trinity Catholic Comes Up Short

After flying high against Umatilla last Saturday, Trinity Catholic came back down to earth. The Trinity Catholic Celtics took a 62-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Forest Wildcats on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Celtics can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while the Wildcats are ranked 81st).

Despite the loss, Trinity Catholic still got an impressive performance from Julian Mendez, who went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points along with five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Serrano, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Mendez wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Trinity Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive contests.

Trinity Catholic now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Forest, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Vanguard the next time they take the court. Forest will host Vanguard at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Trinity Catholic will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
