Notre Dame has gone a perfect 3-0 against Terra Nova recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Notre Dame will head out on the road to face off against Terra Nova at 4:00 p.m. Notre Dame is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Notre Dame nor Mills made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 3-2. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Allison Lui put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Menlo-Atherton hit Terra Nova with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers fell just short of the Bears by a score of 13-12. The Tigers have struggled against the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Aubrey Bailey and Layla Tassio did some serious damage despite the final result: Bailey went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Tassio went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was Tassio's first of the season. Emma Bailey was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Notre Dame's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-4-1. As for Terra Nova, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Notre Dame hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Terra Nova struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Notre Dame was able to grind out a solid win over Terra Nova in their previous matchup back in April, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Notre Dame since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
