Baseball Recap: Maize Takes Down Ranked Bishop Carroll

Maize faced Bishop Carroll in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Golden Eagles 7-5. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly two runs.

Cooper Shaw looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brodie Jarvis was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Short, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Maize's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Carroll, their loss ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 20-6.

As of now, neither Maize nor the Golden Eagles have any future games scheduled.
