Softball Recap: Bloomfield's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but Bloomfield unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the North Knox Warriors by a score of 5-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Lila Koontz put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off three hits. Koontz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Zylah Hendricks was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gwenavere Klun, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Bloomfield's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for North Knox, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6.

Bloomfield and North Knox could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Cardinals will take on Bloomington South at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (147 vs. 43). Meanwhile, North Knox (ranked 285th) will meet North Daviess (ranked 135th) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
