Basketball Game Preview: Sunlake Seahawks vs. Lecanto Panthers

The Sunlake Seahawks are taking a road trip to face off against the Lecanto Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lecanto took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Sunlake, who comes in off a win.

Lecanto will be up against a hot Sunlake team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Sunlake snuck past Cypress Creek with a 44-40 victory on Tuesday. Given the Seahawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Coyotes are ranked 331st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cherity Powells was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. Those 25 points gave her a new career-high. Kaycie Hyde was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds.

Sunlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 31 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 62 points the game before, Lecanto was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell 34-23 to Springstead. The Panthers have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Lecanto's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Sunlake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
