Softball Game Preview: Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes vs. Wayne City Indians

The Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes will head out on the road to challenge the Wayne City Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Zeigler-Royalton has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Zeigler-Royalton came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Hamilton County, falling 16-4.

Caitlyn DeWeerdt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brylee Martin, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wayne City, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over Webber on Thursday. The Indians not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024 (when they won 19-0).

Zeigler-Royalton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Wayne City, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.

Zeigler-Royalton took their victory against Wayne City when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tornadoes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
