Preview: Starmount Rams vs. Mount Airy Granite Bears
The Starmount Rams will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Mount Airy Granite Bears at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Starmount was able to grind out a solid victory over North Stokes, taking the game 7-2. The win was just what Starmount needed coming off of an 11-0 defeat in their prior match.
Starmount got a great performance from Nohr Issa as he struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Issa has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts every time he's pitched this season.
Meanwhile, Mount Airy waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Sauras 9-1. With that victory, Mount Airy brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Camdyn Easter and Ian Gallimore did most of the damage at the plate: Easter scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Gallimore scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Hemric, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Starmount now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Mount Airy, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both teams have some strikeout artists on the roster. Starmount has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mount Airy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.1 per game. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
