Effingham won the last time they faced Mattoon and Jaxon Bridges did his part to make sure it happened again. The Hearts put the hurt on the Greenwave with a sharp 36-16 win on Friday thanks in part to Bridges, who threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. He has become a key player for Effingham: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise.

The victory snapped Effingham's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-4 record. As for Mattoon, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Effingham will challenge Centralia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mattoon, they will take on Marion at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Greenwave will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.63 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
