Baseball Recap: Patrick Henry Takes a Loss

Patrick Henry extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Varina Blue Devils. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Varina, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 22, 2024.

For Varina's part, Luke Carnley made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Carnley a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Carnley wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mekhi Bullock, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs Bullock has posted since back in May of 2024. Tino Henderson, Jr. also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Looking ahead, Patrick Henry will face off against Atlee at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 0.9 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Varina, they will take on J.R. Tucker at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
