Softball Recap: Roma Takes a Loss

Roma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Nixon Mustangs, falling 18-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-2 back in February.

Alexa Verastegui made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Shaelyn Butler was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Roma's record now sits at 1-15. As for Nixon, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roma will challenge Rio Hondo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rio Hondo has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.91 runs per game on average), something Roma will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Nixon, they will take on Palmview at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Palmview will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Nixon surely won't give up without a fight.
