Basketball Recap: Bishop Moore Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bishop Moore walked away with it. They came out on top against the Lake Region Thunder by a score of 63-53 on Thursday. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Thunder are ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bishop Moore found their leader in freshman Jaiden Peterson, who went 9 of 15 en route to 27 points and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Peterson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Malayah Rypien, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards.

Bishop Moore smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Bishop Moore is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points over those games. As for Lake Region, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Bishop Moore didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-27 victory against Mulberry on the 8th. As for Lake Region, they will challenge Eustis at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Eustis' defense has only allowed 29.4 points per game this season, so Lake Region's offense will have their work cut out for them.
