Softball Recap: Tri-County Penguins vs. Rosholt Hornets
Tri-County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Rosholt Hornets 17-6. For the Penguins, this counts as revenge for the 16-9 victory the Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.
Paitton Rothermel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. Rothermel was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tri-County got a massive performance out of Kaylee Goman, who scored four runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Those four runs gave Goman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaycie Sanchez, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4.
Looking ahead, Tri-County will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Port Edwards at 4:30 p.m. As for Rosholt, they will take on Three Lakes/Phelps at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
