Baseball Recap: Hobbton Has No Trouble Against Union

While Hobbton put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Union. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Spartans. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Ben Neal made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Neal was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. Hobbton is undefeated when Neal posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Thomas Tart, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Joe Corbett was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.

Hobbton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matchups.

Hobbton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Union, their defeat was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hobbton will square off against North Duplin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Union, they will face off against Neuse Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
