Baseball Recap: Heritage Wins Going Away Against Wake Forest

Heritage barely beat Wake Forest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huskies blew past the Cougars 13-4 on Tuesday. The Huskies have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Holden Kafes looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Heritage is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Heritage got a massive performance out of Jack Merrell, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-4. Merrell has become a key player for the Huskies: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyler Abbe, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Heritage lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Heritage and bumps their season record up to 9-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Wake Forest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

Heritage will have a chance to go back-to-back against Wake Forest: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
