It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Nichols ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Mount Mercy Academy Magic. The four-run effort marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Reyes Rodriguez spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Annabelle Berke, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Riley Keller also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Nichols' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Mount Mercy Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Coming up, Nichols will square off against Mount St. Mary Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mount Mercy Academy, they have already played their next contest, a 22-0 loss against St. Mary's on the 7th.
