League recap: Northwestern climbs in state rankings with win

District 10 Region 4 AA recap Oct. 16, 2012

Northwestern moved up to 225 from 325 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in District 10 Region 4 AA. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Greenville 42-7.

Fairview extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Iroquois, 62-15. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Tigers.

Corry's dynamic duo of Nathanel Smith and Patrick Brown proved tough for Warren to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 154 yards and one touchdown and Brown had 115 yards receiving. Tyler Engle helped Corry's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 54 yards.

Shannon Jackson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 118 yards on 12 carries as Fairview fell to the Dragons. Daniel Paden also contributed to the rushing game with 47 yards on the ground.

Corry's Smith and Engle have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading District 10 Region 4 AA in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 865 yards this season, while Engle, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 29 catches for 368 yards. Jackson from Jim Brinling's team leads the league in rushing with 1561 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when North East takes on Northwestern. As it stands, the Grape Pickers are in third, while DJ Hough's team is in second.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when North East takes on the Wildcats. Matt Shesman's team has allowed 92 points this season, while Northwestern has given up 89.

The Tigers took down the Braves 62-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jackson in the win.
