Football Recap: Fossil Ridge Takes a Loss

Fossil Ridge extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 21-20 heartbreaker at the hands of the Columbine Rebels. If the SaberCats were looking for revenge after losing 35-21 to the Rebels when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Fossil Ridge lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Will Hough, who rushed for 84 yards and one TD, and also picked up 52 receiving yards. Colton Jantz was another key player, throwing for 225 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes.

Columbine's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbine to victory, but perhaps none more so than James Himes, who rushed for 82 yards and one score. Another back making a difference was Lijah Vialpando, who rushed for 71 yards and one TD.

Looking ahead, Fossil Ridge will venture away from home to face off against Regis Jesuit at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Columbine, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Heritage at 4:00 p.m. on the 25th.
