Basketball Recap: Apache Junction Snaps 15-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Apache Junction needed a changed in momentum after dropping six straight games and they got it from Roy Nelson. The Apache Junction Prospectors were the clear victor by a 63-39 margin over the Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils on Monday thanks in part to Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave him a new career-high.

The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Adam, who went 6 of 15 en route to 15 points. He also posted a block, marking his first of the season.

Despite the loss, Santa Cruz Valley still got an impressive performance from Nathan Harris, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards. Another player making a difference was Ty Jarius Salazar, who posted ten points and three steals.

Apache Junction's win ended a 15-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-13. As for Santa Cruz Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Apache Junction didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-48 loss against Seton Catholic on the 14th. Santa Cruz Valley has also already played their next match, a 59-52 defeat against Heritage Academy on the 16th.
